“PYO GALLERY, LA, in conjunction with the Korean Cultural Center are pleased to announce a joint exhibition of photographs by two of Koreas leading stage photographers; Eun Joo Lee and Shinae Choi. Eun Joo Lee will exhibit a series of limited edition images of the influential video artist Nam June Paik and Shinae Choi will present the world-renowned ballerina, Sue Jin Kang. For decades Eun Joo Lee has captured the most respected performances in Korea and had the privilege of being the only photographer invited by Nam June Paik to document his final exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum. Nam June Paik was the first visual artist to fuse TV sets, music and noise with traditional art forms. His importance in this genre is global and is often dubbed the grandfather of video art. Lee traveled between Seoul and New York for fifteen years to photograph Paiks portrait and developed a life long friendship. While the focus of this exhibit is about the reflective celebrity portraits, there is also an intriguing narrative of the two successful photographers being exhibited. They are mother and daughter. This presentation commemorates the 5th anniversary of Paiks passing and has travelled to Seoul, Tokyo, and New York before coming to Los Angeles.”

Formosart Exhibition: The People of Today, the Memories of Tomorrow, Opening – Pomona, 6/18/11-6/26/11

“Please come join us at the opening reception of our first official FORMOSArt Exhibition – The People of Today, the Memories of Tomorrow. There’ll
be food, live music performances, and a live Chinese calligraphy brush
painting demonstration on a giant piece of canvas by one of our artist,
Enya Tseng, you do not want to miss it!

What’s in the Exhibition: We’ve assembled a group of Taiwanese American artists and creative professionals, each specializing in different genres of art, including photography, oil painting, Chinese brush calligraphy & painting, motion & graphics design.
A portion of the exhibition is dedicated to illustrating the different facets of Taiwan, or aka Formosa, and its rich cultural history and beauty.
And of course, the center piece of our exhibition: Taiwan Photo Collage, pieced together by photos which you have submitted along side with many other friends and members from around the community. So if you have contributed photo, you do not want to miss seeing it in person. The Cause:
A selection of artwork in the exhibition will be made available for a silent auction. The proceeds from the artwork sold will go to The Foundation of Disabled Youth (www.ffdy.org), an organization that helps and serves the needs of families with disabled youth in the Asian community.”

Singgalot (The Ties That Bind): Filipinos in America, Traveling Smithsonian Exhibit, SF – ends 10/24/10!

“Today there are more than 2.5 million Filipino Americans in the U.S. Yet many, including Filipinos themselves, aren’t familiar with the details of their history in America: their experiences, rich traditions, and culture. Singgalot is their story.”

Word up to that. Educate yo’selves on yo’ history, my fellow Asian Americans! This exhibit is only in the SF Public Library until this Sunday, so SEE IT NOW! Sorry about the late notice–I only just found out about it today!
