3rd Annual Irvine Korean Festival

“The Annual Irvine Korean Cultural Festival is an event designed to commemorate Korean immigration to the United States, which began in 1903. The festival also represents an opportunity to celebrate and share Korean cultural heritage and artistic traditions with the broader Irvine community and Orange County. The Festival is a culture-filled extravaganza replete with fine Korean cuisine, games, art, music, and entertainment.”

“The JACCC celebrates the Year of the Dragon with Hatsu-Kaze (First Wind), an artistic journey through Western and Eastern performing arts and traditions curated by the creative vision of Hirokazu Kosaka, Artistic Director of the JACCC.

Join the JACCC on this fascinating New Year Celebration featuring performances by the Kim Eung Hwa Korean Dance Academy & Performing Arts School, The Professional Training Program students of The Colburn School’s The Trudl Zipper Dance Institute, and Nagautaby Katada Kikusa, Jyorokusho Kineya and Yasoyo Kineya II.

The ritual shooting of the arrow – a purification ceremony – will be performed by IKKYU of the Los Angeles Kyudo Archery Group.”

One day in a small and peaceful village Sameri, a terrible accident happens. Some parts of dead body ripped off cruelly are discovered by ecologists who stayed in the mountain for studying wild animals. A policeman KIM Kang-su just transfers to Sameri from Seoul and takes this case. The victim turns out a grand-daughter of CHUN Il-man, who was once a legendary hunter. He is convinced that it happened not by human but man-eating boar, Chaw. The five of people that a greedy hunter BAEK, a former hunter CHUN reloading his hunting gun for grand daughter, a detective SIM in charge of this case, an ecologist Soo-ryun who takes any risks for studying mutant species animals and KIM Kang-soo whose mother has been missing head to the deep dark mountains.”

Jesus Christ Superstar in Brief
A world first contemporary dance created by Wansoon Yook in 1973 to “Jesus Christ Superstar”, a British rock opera composed by Andrew Weber and written by Tim Rice in 1970.
Dance theatre “Jesus Christ Super Star” marks recording breaking record both in its number of performance(300) staged in and out of the country and audiences (over 750 thousands) since it was staged in 1973.

Story
The story traces what happened in the last one week before and right after Jesus Christ was crucified. The very ancient story, which brings the viewers back to the days of two thousands years ago, is transformed into candid and dynamic movements. Originality of choreography owes in many part, to the music which is strongly contemporary but still maintains and even enhances religious inspiration.

“The Korea Creative Content Agency (President, Jae-woong Lee) will hold the special exhibition, “Manhwa, Story and Paintings” from November 17 through November 23, 2011 at the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles. At the Opening Show, the Korea Creative Content Agency plans to introduce an overview of the history of Korean animation with the over 80 original animation paintings.”

Busan West Film Festival

“Over the course of three days, November 11 – 13, 2011, Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, recognized as one of the premiere film schools in the United States, will showcase Asian contemporary and classic feature films and documentaries. The film festival will showcase Pan-Asian films selected directly from the 2011 Busan International Film Festival, the largest Asian film festival in the world which takes place in Busan, South Korea. The program will feature invited directors representing the films, along with an Opening Night Gala, a Retrospective evening after-party and a Closing Night reception — all designed to showcase Pan-Asian culture through food, music and décor. Q&A sessions led by renowned film scholars will guide the audiences in conversation with directors and actors who join us for Busan West.”
