Witness a culinary showdown of six Filipino American chefs as they compete for the grand prize at KULINARYA: A FILIPINO CULINARY SHOWDOWN, hosted by the Philippine Consulate General, Philippine Department of Tourism, Philippine Department of Trade and Industry, and Filipino American Arts Exposition.
Three finalists each in the Amateur and Professional Divisions have advanced to showcase their culinary skills and talents in this exciting cook-off, where they must prepare a starter course (appetizer or soup), a second course (their own version of adobo), a third course (second entrée of their choice), and a Filipino dessert… all in a head-to-head challenge.

A floral offering at 10:30 a.m. in front of Seafood City kicks off the 115th anniversary of the martyrdom of the National Hero of the Philippines, under the auspices of the Council of Philippine American Organizations of San Diego County (COPAO). This will be immediately followed by a short program and refreshments at the COPAO Center.

“ESKABO Daan is a Filipino Martial Art which has been integrated with aspects of many other martial arts. At first E.S.K.A.B.O started off as an acronym ( Escrima, Serrada, Kali , Arnis, Boxing & Jeet Kune Do).
The mission of Eskabo Daan is to envision and create a global arena where humble minded martial artists who are passionate about promoting and perpetuating the Filipino martial arts, can gather and have an exchange of knowledge and ideas in the absence of financial or political obligations.
We at Eskabo have a desire to share our knowledge and understanding of the unique history and culture of our integrated Filipino martial arts system to as many people as possible.

“Come warm your body and soul. We will make two down-to-earth Filipino soups perfect for the cold season, from the ginger-inflected tinola, to sinigang made deliciously sour with tamarind. Keeping in the spirit of all traditional foods, we will incorporate seasonal produce. Following the workshop, we will share our meal and informal conversation on Filipino foods in the US, the loss and preservation of recipes, and adapting foods into kitchens far from homeland.

Mommy Queerest begins with Kat having the earth-shattering realization that she and her mother are both lesbian. Too bad her mom hasn’t figured it out yet—despite the fact she’s been living with her partner since Kat was six years old! After a spectacularly failed attempt to share this epiphany with her mom, Kat lurches through her own teenage sexploration with guys and girls, trying to figure out how she fits in with her family, community, and self. After a decade of attempting to educate this wayward parent about what it means to be lesbian, she discovers there is still a thing or two she can learn from her mom.”

Join Zelle, Princely Butch and a host of other characters in Alison M. De La Cruz’s new solo show L.A. Malong Malong. This re-imagined, interactive fairy tale takes part of its name from a Southern Philippines folkdance where the malong transforms into over 30 objects. Zelle knows there’s more to the story. Come help her explore the question.
Alison M. De La Cruz is a multi-disciplinary theatre artist, arts educator and cultural organizer. Her solo works include SUNGKA (1999) and NATURALLY GRACEFUL (2005); she also pulled together 9 collaborators on her last original piece: WHERE YOU STAY? (2006). De La Cruz is the Administrative Director for About Productions. She is also the Lead Teaching Artist for East West Player’s PEAC Program & Special Event Producer. She collaborated with Playwrights’ Arena. De La Cruz also served as a Director, Dramaturg, and Writing/Performance Teacher for TEADAWORKS 2010.”
