So-hee’s heart hardens after hardships in life and she comes back to her hometown and Seung-jae’s heart swells up again at seeing her again…”

One day in a small and peaceful village Sameri, a terrible accident happens. Some parts of dead body ripped off cruelly are discovered by ecologists who stayed in the mountain for studying wild animals. A policeman KIM Kang-su just transfers to Sameri from Seoul and takes this case. The victim turns out a grand-daughter of CHUN Il-man, who was once a legendary hunter. He is convinced that it happened not by human but man-eating boar, Chaw. The five of people that a greedy hunter BAEK, a former hunter CHUN reloading his hunting gun for grand daughter, a detective SIM in charge of this case, an ecologist Soo-ryun who takes any risks for studying mutant species animals and KIM Kang-soo whose mother has been missing head to the deep dark mountains.”

“Join us for a special brunch reception honoring Visual Communications’ founding members Duane Kubo, Robert Nakamura, Alan Ohashi, and Eddie Wong, who will be joined by VC mainstay Alan Kondo, at the Chop Suey Café in Historic Los Angeles Little Tokyo on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 starting at 11:00 AM. Then, join us and our guests as we screen a selection of newly-restored Visual Communications classics as part of our special program Community Visionaries: Visual Communications and the Dawn of Asian Pacific American Cinema, at the Downtown Independent starting at 2:00 PM.

Community Visionaries will feature a selection of groundbreaking Visual Communications “classics,” all restored through the Academy Archives and presented here in brand-new 16mm film prints. Additionally, Visual Communications founders Duane Kubo, Robert Nakamura, Alan Ohashi, and Eddie Wong will be joined by VC mainstay Alan Kondo to share with the audience their experiences producing community-based media for a “back-yard” project that evolved into a revered community and national institution.”

“Join us for Movie Night at the OACC!

This month we will be screening Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (ลุงบุญมีระลึกชาติ) by Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, the film centers on the last days of the life of the titular Uncle Boonmee. With his loved ones – including the ghost of his dead wife and his lost son who has returned in non-human form – Boonmee explores his past lives as he contemplates the reasons for his illness.

The film will be introduced by Dena Beard, Curatorial Assistant at the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. She managed the MATRIX projects of Desirée Holman and Silke Otto-Knapp and has worked on exhibitions with Tomas Saraceno, Trevor Paglen, Martha Colburn, Tris Vonna-Michelll, Ahmet Ogut, Omer Fast, and Emily Roysdon, and others.”

“Over the course of three days, November 11 – 13, 2011, Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, recognized as one of the premiere film schools in the United States, will showcase Asian contemporary and classic feature films and documentaries. The film festival will showcase Pan-Asian films selected directly from the 2011 Busan International Film Festival, the largest Asian film festival in the world which takes place in Busan, South Korea. The program will feature invited directors representing the films, along with an Opening Night Gala, a Retrospective evening after-party and a Closing Night reception — all designed to showcase Pan-Asian culture through food, music and décor. Q&A sessions led by renowned film scholars will guide the audiences in conversation with directors and actors who join us for Busan West.”

“The San Francisco Film Society presents this exciting three-day showcase, which highlights the best of contemporary Taiwanese cinema and provides Bay Area audiences with unique opportunities to view bold new Taiwanese films and engage with visionary filmmakers.

Opening the third year of Taiwan Film Days on Friday, October 14 is Formosa Mambo, Wang Chi-tsai’s dark comedy of errors surrounding a band of kidnappers. The weekend continues with a broad lineup of programs including Pinoy Sunday, Ho Wi-ding’s charming comedy that follows two Philippine immigrants attempts to transport a discarded sofa across town, and Ranger, in which a released convict finds himself reimmersed into the violent brotherhood of Taiwanese mobdom as the protector of the abused child of a mob boss.”

As part of Pilipino American History Month Celebration at UCLA, Samahang Pilipino and the Pilipino Alumni Association have been working together to put together two nights of amazing films showcasing various Pilipino experiences.

We are currently accepting STUDENT and AMATEUR FILMS with cultural relevance until October 7. If chosen, your film will be shown alongside other professional films including but not limited to R.A.
