“The Korea Creative Content Agency (President, Jae-woong Lee) will hold the special exhibition, “Manhwa, Story and Paintings” from November 17 through November 23, 2011 at the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles. At the Opening Show, the Korea Creative Content Agency plans to introduce an overview of the history of Korean animation with the over 80 original animation paintings.”

TAYO Launch Party / Eliseo’s Art Exhibit Opening – 10/21/11, Moorpark

“TAYO Arts & Culture will be releasing its third annual literary magazine at this exhibit opening, supporting one of its longtime featured artists, Eliseo Art Silva in his exhibit opening at The Arthur Gallery. Eliseo’s solo exhibition of his paintings entitled “Memory and Surveillance” will include over a dozen new paintings and sculptures, running for the next two months and will include his posters and prints of paintings and murals. Over 25 paintings and sculptures will fill the gallery exploring contemporary themes, images, memory and narratives of Filipino America and beyond. We hope you can join TAYO and Eliseo on this special night.”

“Giant Robot is proud to host World Wide Panty Flash, paper clay sculptures by Yukinori Dehara.

We’ve featured Japanese artist, Yukinori Dehara annually and his exhibitions range from being touching to grotesque. Yet like most artists, he has a deep ideology behind his pieces although to the casual observer, they look like fun.

Panchira means panty flash.

In Yukinori Dehara’s words, ‘It sometimes takes a candid shot of the panty and the uncle is arrested though it is a shameful thing. Panchira is an important part of Japanese culture for men. People want panchira animation, idol, and figures because we can’t watch panchira at real world.’ ‘It is always noted in the commuter train and the town. I made figures imagining a lot of situations of panchira, so I love panchira.’

An opening reception for the artists will take place from 6:30 – 10:00 pm on Saturday, July 2, 2011.”

“PYO GALLERY, LA, in conjunction with the Korean Cultural Center are pleased to announce a joint exhibition of photographs by two of Koreas leading stage photographers; Eun Joo Lee and Shinae Choi. Eun Joo Lee will exhibit a series of limited edition images of the influential video artist Nam June Paik and Shinae Choi will present the world-renowned ballerina, Sue Jin Kang. For decades Eun Joo Lee has captured the most respected performances in Korea and had the privilege of being the only photographer invited by Nam June Paik to document his final exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum. Nam June Paik was the first visual artist to fuse TV sets, music and noise with traditional art forms. His importance in this genre is global and is often dubbed the grandfather of video art. Lee traveled between Seoul and New York for fifteen years to photograph Paiks portrait and developed a life long friendship. While the focus of this exhibit is about the reflective celebrity portraits, there is also an intriguing narrative of the two successful photographers being exhibited. They are mother and daughter. This presentation commemorates the 5th anniversary of Paiks passing and has travelled to Seoul, Tokyo, and New York before coming to Los Angeles.”

“Bali: Art, Ritual, Performance brings the art and artists of this special Indonesian island to San Francisco so that you can experience firsthand its culture, beliefs, and practices. See not only artworks but explore the context in which they were made and used, as the museum comes alive with the kinds of music and performance that fill Balinese ritual life.

The 131 artworks on view—many borrowed from international collections and never before seen in the U.S.—range from simple, yet deftly woven images of the rice goddess to elaborately carved and gilded chairs. Shadow puppetry, gamelan performances, masked dances, and more provide a museum experience as unique and mesmerizing as Bali itself.”
