“Hallmark Card Shmallmark Card! Just in time for Valentine’s Day, learn how to screen print and bind your original love poems, short story or other-content chapbooks in multiples.

In two sessions, workshop participants will learn the skills and access equipment to produce hand-bound, screen-printed chapbooks using tabletop Gocco print machines from Japan, needles and thread. Come try out the Gocco, learn about quick and crafty chapbook production or, with advance preparation and planning, print and finish an edition of up to 20 chapbooks of your own, suitable for giving.

A separately-scheduled chapbook reading by emerging and published authors in Celebration of the Chapbook, and an opportunity to sell or trade your chapbook, will follow.”

Japanese Butoh – 6 week dance series starting 1/5/12, Oakland

“Learn and explore fundamentals of Butoh with Judith Kajiwara, Oakland Asian Cultural Center’s 2011/2012 Artist in Resident. Butoh is a slow-motion, focused improvisational dance form that originated in Tokyo, Japan in the late 1950′s.

Each class will focus on a specific element of Butoh dance. You’ll increase your capacity to express from your inner awareness as you work individually and in an ensemble. Wear comfy, loose clothing and be prepared to dance in bare feet.

EVERYONE regardless of age or ability is welcome, and will be taught in a comfortable space that honors everyone’s dance.”

“How can the Hip Hop generation reclaim its voice and use the aesthetics of Hip Hop culture for personal healing and cultural empowerment? Universal Filipino, written and performed by Kilusan Bautista, is a solo Hip Hop Theater Production that explores the dual identity processes for Filipino Americans in a modern, multicultural racist America. An excerpt of the full production will be presented along with an in-depth discussion based on the themes of Universal Filipino. Lets share our personal histories in order to move forward as a united community that embraces the personal and political sides of our historical movement.

All ages are welcome to join. Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in.”
